Day 61, I Miss Harley

A year ago, the best friend you could ask for passed away. For 16 years my companion in life was a 5-pound black Yorkie-and it was amazing. I miss her every day...but slowly Lola reminds me that no matter how painful, this kind of love is worth the pain.

Back to Blonde

I have decided to start blogging again on here. I stopped because I started this blog when I lived in San Francisco with Harley...and once she was gone it made me too sad to think of continuing it without her around me. I have been using another blog that just didn't seem like "me" - and I missed writing and posting goofy photos of my dogs, so I decided that it is time to begin again. I think Harley would want that...and she would definitely want Lola to endure the same halloween costumes, dresses, boots and such that she did. This is for Lola...and Harley.

If Dogs Could Fly...

I am quite certain Harley would have the ability to fly away.

And After...

I **finally** hung my vintage film reels because Harley seemed to be attracted to that area of the room. She tripped over them one too many times and I was feeling like a terrible dog owner. I tend to let things sit until I am 110% sure that I love them, so at least I now know they are keepers. Now I know that I am not painting that wall again!

How To: Hang Your Artwork and Accesories

I recently bought vintage film reels to go over my tv. A great way to hang a group of photos-or in my case film reels-is to lay out the group on wrapping paper (as shown in the pic). I used leftover paper from Christmas.
Next, make a mark where you want the pieces to hang.
Then, using tape, hang the wrapping paper on the wall where you plan to hang the pics. Finally, put nails up where you marked the paper.
Rip the paper down, hang your artwork. And, voilà.

You Say It's Your Birthday

I am the worst dog owner ever-I forgot my dogs birthday. If she were 4 or so it wouldn't be a big deal - but this was her 15th! Happy belated Harley!

Strawberry Fields

The only thing sad about the end of summer - Harley's strawberry dress will be so last season.

Harley is Photogenic

Harley takes better photos than I do-this one is from my MacBook
camera. I am trying really hard and she doesn't even need to try. She
will be 15 in October!

Introducing Lola

I got my new puppy - almost 7 week old Lola. Unfortunately she terrorized Harley for 2 days...resulting in Harley getting physically sick from the stress. So, she is back in Fredericksburg with my parents. I guess easing her into our life in Austin is better anyway. She is super cute and I wish I could keep her with me, but Harley being almost 15 - and the only pup in my life for that time - needs to be the first priority. On the plus side...Lola will get to hang with her sis Ruby Tuesday...AND my parents will get to start the whole training process!

Harley's Photo Shoot

Since she hasn't been to any bars with me lately I made her do a photo shoot in bluebonnets. She is looking at my mom in this pic. I think she prefers bars to the bluebonnets.

Getting Settled

I am loving being in Austin and am getting settled at the speed of light - it helps my apartment was perfectly set up before I got here. I have just been shopping away buying rugs and artwork.

I think Harley is just oblivious to where she lives. Really, if we moved to Antartica she would adjust just fine. And, speaking of Antartica how wonderful is air conditioning! My a/c is set on 70 right now.

Housing, Take 5

I am at my 5th 'house' in 7 days. I am so sick of moving around. It is truly taxing and I am exhausted.

Most of all...I miss Harley! I hate to use the word 'bought' but Harley was purchased 13 1/2 years ago. At the time I was in junior college. I have had such responsibility since then that it is weird not to have the responsibility. I keep looking for her only to remember that oh yea, she is resting comfortably in our new apartment in Austin. So, truly I am jealous of my dogs life.

An INCREDIBLE Weekend

This weekend was one of the best I have had in a while. I have a travel guide and I recently made a list of things I want to see and do in San Francisco in the next month and I was able to cross a few things off the list this weekend...

Friday I went to Monterey to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I drove back up Hwy 1 stopping in Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. Half Moon Bay is a cute little seaside town with a great Parisian inspired shop called The Posh Moon. I bought the cutest charm bracelet made in Paris by a designer called Catherine Popesco. The charms are hand made from original stampings of charms from the 1920's. Truly beautiful!

Saturday I walked the Vallejo Steps and surrounding area. I walked for 4 hours this day...my dog was EXHAUSTED! Saturday night I went with friends to Ideale in North Beach. A local shop owner, who happens to be from Italy, had told me that Ideale is where all of the Italians eat. After dinner we headed to Tony Nik's.

Sunday my condo owner was showing the apartment so I had to be out for a few hours. So, I walked up to Coit Tower and cheered on the bikers and walked some more. I had to carry Harley for a while...again she was exhausted. One of the more interesting moments was watching a really angry cop threaten to beat bikers with his baton if they tried to ride down this one part of Grant. Matress Giant needed to make a delivery on that part of the blocked street but the cop told them no...and to go watch a movie then maybe come back. I thought that was a pretty funny thing to say to them. I then went and met a friend for burgers at Mo's. We picked them up to go, since Harley isn't actually allowed in most places.

And today I went to Mission Dolores. Mission Dolores was so beautiful and the garden cemetery so peaceful. This photo is a statue in the cemetery.

I think all cities have this much to see and explore. Where ever I live next I am going to buy a travel guide and make another list.

Harley Loves Sunday Part II

This time around, we visited Maggie McGarry's and hung out with fellow PR girls. This happens to be my favorite bar in North Beach because they carry Freixenet and plenty of Irish lads.

So, the PR girls were quite rowdy and were taking shots, which we happily took with them. I love having Monday as a holiday.

It Was a Merry Christmas

Harley was exhausted after opening presents. This year she got a new bed, new toys and a tiara. This was a special holiday because I finally grew up...not only did I get a grown up tv, but I also progressed from a disposable camera to a digital.

Harley loves Sunday

Columbus Cafe on Sunday. If you go after 4 beers are 2-for-1. You get a token for the free beer and can use it anytime. Pretty decent bloody mary's and I love the brother/sister bartender team.

So, this bar mostly rocks because they let Harley in. Note how calm and comfortable she is in this setting. Yea, she is the perfect bar dog.
