Shoe Review: Worishofer

Two years ago I purchased two pairs of Worishofers after seeing a photo with Michelle Williams wearing them. But then they sat in my closet. They were boxed up and moved at least three times. I put them on Poshmark and they didn't sell. Then one day this summer I was cleaning out my closet and I decided to wear them. They soon became one of the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn.

Yes, they're technically orthopedic shoes. But they have a cute/ugly thing going on that really grows on you. Much like Birkenstocks for some people. For me, comfort is key and these hit that area perfectly. They are lightweight and almost feel like you're not wearing shoes. The footbed is incredibly soft and has an area that's just slightly higher in the arch area for long, comfortable wear. Additionally, the buckle is adjustable so a wider or narrow foot should fit fine. Sizing is spot on. I wear an 8 1/2 to 9 and the 39 fits perfectly.

The Look for Less: J. Crew Leopard Etta Pump Vs. Merona Leopard Pump

Once upon a time I purchased the J. Crew leopard print Etta pump. They were undeniably beautiful but I didn't end up keeping them...I worried that I would somehow damage the calf hair on the heel. I always seem to damage the heels of my heels!

Then today, I was shopping at Target and on a pass through the shoe section saw a great copycat. They aren't calf hair but who cares-they're incredibly cute and surprisingly comfortable!

My New Do!

Buh, bye long locks...loving my new do although it's taking a little time getting used to fixing it.

I was totally inspired by Olivia Palermo and her lob. It's been about 10 years since my hair was this short!

Sam Edelman Gigi: Only the Best Shoe Ever

No need to exaggerate, this is the best shoe I've ever owned. Hands down. Proof is in the fact that I own seven different colors and counting. They're extremely comfortable and glued to my feet spring through fall in Texas, and really even some winter days. Now, they come in a rainbow. I think my bank account is in serious trouble. Get Sam Edelman Gigi here.

My Current Obsession: Spring in Tweed

Since it's March next week and hovering around 60 degrees in Texas, I've decided it's Spring. At J. Crew last weekend I was playing dress up and I ran across this striped 3/4 sleeve length top in mint, navy and tweed-looking taupe color.

I've noticed quite a bit at the store is in tweed, which I dismissed at first. But upon second look, the color palates are quite beautiful with the fabric. And although my striped top is faux tweed, you get the same look. Now, as soon as my white jeans are back from the tailor, I'm breaking the "white jeans" rules and pairing them with some tweed.

Product Review: Essie Nail Stickers

I {finally} took off my Gelish polish this weekend and have been itching to try my first batch of Essie Nail Stickers. As I mentioned, I looked and looked for these after spotting them on Instagram. I'm happy to report that I tried them and {love} them! This is my first pair of nail stickers to try, so I can't compare them to others. Here's the skinny:

The Good
  • They're really easy to apply. It only took me about 15 minutes to do...counting the two times I messed up on one finger. Luckily you get plenty in the package so it's okay to mess up.
  • They look really beautiful on. I think they are a bit more classic looking than others I have seen.
  • I got a lot of compliments, and it's fun to share new finds with other ladies!
  • One day down and they still are on!
  • They cost $10, much cheaper than a manicure and just as cute.

The Not So Good
  • I kept snagging the end of one finger on stuff today-it has a bit of a rough edge where I filed it down. I think I might add a clear coat on top to make sure it lasts.
  • You remove them by putting oil on your cuticle. Now this is GREAT because the gel manicure and acetone is damaging. But, I use oils when I style my hair and am a little worried they will lift.
  • They cost $10. Let's hope they last just as long or longer than a mani at this price.
Overall, I would definitely recommend them! I have a few other pairs and I imagine I will get better with each application.

Saturday Find: Essie Nail Stickers

Today I went to the nail salon for a much-needed gel polish and pedicure session (I went with Red Roses in the Gelish line and it's amaze). Afterwards, I headed towards CVS in search of the elusive Essie Nail Stickers I had read a review about on Bella Sugar. This was my second trip searching for them. And, today was my lucky day, hidden by the socks, reading glasses and canes (leopard print canes!) I found them.

They are really cute in person, even more than in the promo pics on the Essie site. They only had one set of the style photographed above in stock (my absolute favorite), which I grabbed, along with a really soft neutral leopard and red with gold dots. Although I can't report on how well they'll work, I will say they are beautiful and definitely a step above the style of other brands that have been around longer. Once my gel nail polish is ready to remove  I'll let you know my thoughts. If you happen to have a review for them, please post it in comments...I would love to read it and link to it here!

My New Favorite Thing: Merona Coat

I am extremely picky when it comes to the perfect coat, probably because in Texas we don't get to wear them too long. My all time favorite coat was custom made for me (as a Christmas gift from my parents) at Al's Attire in North Beach, when I lived in San Francisco. Unfortunately it is way too big on me to wear anymore, which I guess is a good/bad problem to have. And, I am betting it would be a pretty penny to alter it. So, I have been on the hunt for something that works for now, but isn't too expensive. The other day I was killing time in Austin before a wedding and stopped by my old Target and there it was. This coat. A beautiful coat. A faux fur collar that actually looks decent and is removable...in case I want to pair it with my favorite leopard scarf. It looks Anthropologie'ish to me, without the price tag. Most of all, I am obsessed with the color. Find the coat here.

Blogger Polish Swap

I joined a blogger polish swap hosted by Rachel at lalalists and Carly at Lipgloss and Crayons-being a total polish-aholic, this was right up my alley. And, I was lucky enough to immediately hit it off with my swap partner {and new friend}, Jess at the lily white english rose. We spoke beforehand and decided to do swap an affordable store brand and mid-priced brand. The best part was that I had no idea what Jess would send me-and she had no idea what I would send her!

Jess obviously has great taste because she sent Essie Stylenomics and {uber classic} Revlon Vixen in the cutest packaging I have seen in a while {see below}, along with Yorkie'ish emory boards. I haven't had the chance to actually use the colors sent to me...I will as soon as I am done hammering and unpacking and I will report back! Thanks again Jess for introducing me to two awesome colors!

What's your favorite polish right now?

My New Favorite Thing: Pretty in Spikes Necklace

So, I'm a winner... of this beautiful necklace by JEWELIQ! I usually don't win anything so I don't try {sad, I know haha}...but being a jewelry-aholic I couldn't help but enter the contest for free baubles on the Mix and Match Fashion blog. To my surprise, it was my big moment. And, the awesome prize was my choice from their Website! So, I picked this, the Pretty in Spikes necklace. I love the mix of gold spikes and turquoise-it's adjustable to be shorter or longer. I like to wear turquoise year-round, so this is the perfect necklace for me. Definitely check the JEWELIQ store out if you haven't, it is incredibly cute and incredibly affordable! Thanks again Tara and JEWELIQ.

Spotlight on Brooches

Back in the fall of 2004, my favorite ad campaign was for The Gap featuring Sarah Jessica Parker {above}. I was living in San Francisco at the time, home of The Gap. I have always loved brooches but this sent me into overdrive and I bought every one possible they had, and at shops in Chinatown where they were super cheap. Recently, I've seen a movie star here or there using brooches in their hair or on clothing, inspiring me to do the same. I think this fall, it will be another brooch year for me...channeling Sarah Jessica Parker's style {minus the long tie!}.

I *Heart* Hearts

I have been admiring J Crew heart sweaters for some time now. Unfortunately merino wool and I aren't friends, meaning no J Crew heart sweater for me. So, as you can imagine, I was thrilled yesterday when I discovered that Old Navy has come out with their own version in cotton here. Although it is not the beautiful turquoise color (above), gray and pink will do! I do love everything with hearts.

My New Favorite Thing: Missoni for Havaianas

Remember the Target Missoni debacle? I do, only because I was one of the insane totally normal fans up until 4 a.m. ordering everything I wanted, only to have my order cancelled days later because their system crashed. Don't worry, I still got that darn throw I wanted so bad {even though I ended up purchasing it on eBay}!

Well, the Missoni for Havaianas launch seems to be much more calm. I picked these cute flip flops up at Nordstrom. And, I didn't even have to run down an isle fighting for them OR stay up all night. The color is too cute and I adore the pattern. I guess I should thank Lola for chewing up my Tory Burch flip flops or I wouldn't have needed these. Find the Missoni for Havaianas flip flops here!

Shoe Review: Birkenstock Gizeh

Okay, don't let the word Birkenstock scare you away! I know, you have probably either loved or hated them. I haven't "loved" them since I was in college. That is until I found the Gizeh. I ordered plain ol' black knowing they can go with anything and was prepared to send them back. Well, there was no need to send them back. They are extremely comfortable and I love the look on. My feet don't look wide like they did in the traditional Birkenstocks (with the double buckle). I should mention that I ended up sizing a whole size down for the perfect fit-the larger size left too much room in the toe area. I especially love the black leather because it is so soft-so no blisters for me this summer! Perfect pink is next on my list.

Do you wear Birkenstock's in this style or another? Or do you give them a thumbs down? Please share your thoughts!

Shoe Review: Saltwater Sandals

When I first saw Saltwater Sandals, I was sure they weren't for me. I don't have the most delicate-looking feet and feared my feet would look like Fred Flinestone's! Big.Block.Feed. Yuck! Then I started slowly seeing them on Instagram, then on one of my favorite blogs. They looked so cute on her and her. They grew on me and my fears diminished. So, I decided to try them out. I purchased gold Saltwaters online from MySaltWaterSandals.com. Shipping was fast!

I ended up going down a half size-I normally wear an 8 1/2. I called and spoke to a sales representative that said 99 percent of people size up. I guess I am in the one percent and am happy I sized down! The reason-I personally don't like to have too much room in the toe area when wearing any sandal. It is definitely a preference since it doesn't look bad-I just have a fear of tripping over them (someone *might* be clumsy).

Initially they were pretty tight on my foot but quickly seemed to show a little give. In the shoebox, they provide instructions on how to loosen them by pulling the leather outward. My first day, against my better judgement, I wore them for eight hours. I feared blisters! They weren't bad at all, although still a little snug on the top of my foot. I have heard that wearing a sock with the sandal will help, which I might try this weekend.

The bed of the sandal is flat without any cushioning, so I was surprised not to have achy feet. But most of my time was admittedly spent at a computer. And, back to the no blister thing. I usually can't wear shoes like this because the sides of my feet where the openings are seem to always be uncomfortable on me and cause blisters. But the Saltwaters are really soft on the underside like suede, and were wonderful! I wish more shoe companies would learn from this.

Overall I would recommend them. I really want red or black next. Do you own Saltwaters and if so, what color should I get next?

My New Favorite Thing: Amber Necklace

I have already written about my obsession with monograms. Well, after weeks and weeks my nameplate necklace finally arrived from Bauble Bar! It is custom made for each person, so I can't complain about the wait.

For inspiration, I love how blogger Honestly WTF styled hers in the photo below with multiple other necklaces. Since I got my nameplate necklace, I have been pairing it with my painted necklaces. I love the combo of bright and simple.

Just a Little Glitter for My Feet

I have loved these Miu Miu shoes since the first time I saw them on Instagram. Now, I could never walk in them. Unfortunately I am not one of those girls that can wear high heels. I fall down, I trip. Or I walk funny in them. Oh well.

Is it me, or does glitter just do something to you. Makes you feel a little brighter and a little cuter. I have the J Crew Lula flats (below), but will dream of walking in tall glittery heels like these!

My Six Summer Essentials

I admit it...I am high maintenance when it comes to summer. There are certain products and accessories I have to have, or I might throw a toddler-esque fit. Last year we had over 30 continuous days of 100+ heat, so there is a reason-some things just make it a little easier to get through those days! These are my six summer essentials.

1.) Moroccan Oil - my hair is color-treated and Kardashian long, so if I don't want split ends or breakage I have to take care of it. Usually I shower, put this on the ends and put it in a bun for at least an hour before styling if possible.

2.) Rosebud Salve - it seems that my lips are dry year-round. I love this for just a natural glossy look.

3.) Neutrogena Sunblock - I specifically like the Ultra Sheer with an SPF of 30 or above for my face and neck. These are the areas that show the most damage the quickest!

4.) Scala Lanikai Sunhat - I am not the biggest fan of wearing a hat because it gets so hot, but last summer I bought this one to take to Aruba. It actually was a lifesaver and I have used it a lot since. I usually don't sunbathe and rarely let sun on my face, so this was helpful on those long (wonderful) days outside. I have also used it recently when reading outside. To deal with the hair issue I found that putting my hair in a low bun is the best way to go...and it usually creates decent waves.

5.) J Crew Leather Capri Sandals - I specifically like the gold leather capri sandals. I feel like I can wear these from day to night if needed, because they are more sandal and less flip flop.

6.) Garnet Hill Cotton Knit Dress - sleeveless and cotton is almost a must. I have this dress in royal blue and it is cute, while feeling like I am wearing old pajamas. Paired with my gold flats and done!

Some other summer essentials I already have written about: a cute water bottle and lightweight summer necklaces.

Do you have any summer essentials I should try and add to my list?

Pretty Pretty Lace

Girly and frilly, sexy and edgy. We all know that lace is a classic that can be worn year round and in many different ways-but somehow I seem to forget about it. I am loving how all of these outfits are styled-they keep the accessories somewhat simple with lace. Thinking it might be a great nighttime look in the summer.
